TEENS TAKE THE MET: Become a Forensic Scientist of Art

Join a team of art detectives at the Met as you become a museum scientist for a day. Learn to use microscopy, fiber optics reflectance spectroscopy, infrared and raman spectroscopy, and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy to analyze works of art, study pigments and dyes, authenticate works of art, and identify fakes. It’s just like CSI…but for art!

Marco LeonaResearch Scientist

Marco Leona is the David H. Koch Scientist in Charge of the Department of Scientific Research at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He studied in Italy where he obtained a Laurea in Chimica (M.Sc., Chemistry), and a Ph.D. in Crystallography and Mineralogy from the Universita’ degli Studi di Pavia.
