Sheela Athreya

Sheela Athreya publishes on critical issues of race, colonialism, and representation in biological anthropology, and does extensive fieldwork in India and China. She is a Professor of Anthropology at Texas A&M University, where she is a Chancellor’s EDGES Fellow and a Presidential Impact Fellow. She is a paleoanthropologist specializing in quantitative analyses and comparative anatomy of the craniofacial skeleton among Middle and Late Pleistocene hominins, with a focus on evolutionary processes that shaped early human evolution in South and East Asia.
