Raychelle Burks
Raychelle Burks is an analytical chemist and associate professor of chemistry at American University. Prior to this, she was an assistant professor at St. Edward’s University. She has a background in forensic science, having a passion for scientific detection since junior high school. Out of the lab, Dr. Burks specializes in applying scientific principles to stories and trends in popular culture. She has served as a host of Reactions, the video series of the American Chemical Society, and helped explain the seemingly unexplainable on the Science Channel’s ‘Outrageous Acts of Science’. She also founded and currently manages, the DIY Science Zone at GeekGirlCon. Dr. Burks’ writing has appeared in publications such as TIME, The Washington Post, and Slate. She’s a proud geek girl, loving sci-fi, comics, games, and books of all types.
