John Krakauer

Neuroscientist

John Krakauer has pioneered the use of immersive gaming to heal the physical effects of brain damage. He is the John C. Malone Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the Director of the Brain, Learning, Animation, and Movement (BLAM) laboratory, and co-founder of the KATA project at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is an External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute. John is known for his work on motor learning, motor control, stroke rehabilitation and bioethics. John’s use of immersive video games to treat stroke patients has been profiled in The New Yorker. He is the author of the book Broken Movement: The Neurobiology of Motor Recovery after Stroke.
