George Makari
Historian, psychoanalyst, and psychiatrist George Makari is the author of Soul Machine: The Invention of the Modern Mind (Norton, 2015), which the Wall Street Journal called “brilliant, essential reading.” Makari also wrote the award-winning, widely acclaimed Revolution in Mind: The Creation of Psychoanalysis (HarperCollins, 2008), which has received over eighty reviews worldwide, and has been the focus of numerous international conferences. His essays on the mind and medicine have have appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, TIME, and The Lancet. Director of the DeWitt Wallace Institute for the History of Psychiatry, Dr. Makari is Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and Adjunct Professor at both Rockefeller University and the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. He attended Brown University, Cornell University Medical College, and the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center.
