David Z. Albert

Physicist, Philosopher

David Albert is the Frederick E. Woodbridge Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University in New York where he directs the MA Program in the philosophical Foundations of Physics. He received his bachelor’s degree in physics from Columbia College and his PhD in theoretical physics from the Rockefeller University. He is the author of four books—Quantum Mechanics and Experience (1992), which addresses the measurement problem in quantum mechanics; Time and Chance (2000), which investigates the concept of “the arrow of time;” After Physics (2015), which explores the philosophical implications of modern physics; and A Guess at the Riddle (2023) which presents a novel perspective on interpreting quantum mechanics and aims to reshape our understanding on the universe’s fundamental structure. In 2015, Albert was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
