Carolyn Neuhaus

Bioethicist

Carolyn P. Neuhaus is a Bioethicist at The Hastings Center, an independent bioethics research institute in Garrison, New York. She explores philosophical and ethical questions that arise throughout biomedical research, with an eye toward the wise use of emerging technologies. Her postdoctoral research focused on the use of genome editing tools, such as CRISPR, in nonhuman organisms for public health purposes. Dr. Neuhaus’s work has appeared in Nature Biotechnology, JAMA, The American Journal of Bioethics, and The Hastings Center Report, among other journals. She also writes for bioethics blogs and news outlets, and is frequently interviewed by journalists, appearing in publications such as Gizmodo and Scientific American. Neuhaus earned a BA in philosophy from Georgetown University and her PhD in philosophy from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the NYU School of Medicine’s Division of Medical Ethics.
