Andreas Albrecht

Theoretical Cosmologist

Andreas Albrecht is a Distinguished Research Professor at the Center for Quantum Mathematics and Physics (QMAP) and the department of Physics and Astronomy at University of California, Davis. He is a theoretical cosmologist known for his groundbreaking work in areas such as cosmic inflation, the arrow of time, dark energy and quantum cosmology. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983 where, with Paul Steinhardt, he wrote one of the original papers on “new” or “slow roll” inflation. Slow roll inflation has since become the dominant theory of the early universe. Andreas is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics in the UK. He has served as Physics department chair at UC Davis and was inaugural director of QMAP.
