The World Science Festival’s educational arm, World Science U, is hiring a Program Manager to oversee the unique World Science Scholars program.
Program Description: The World Science Scholars (WSS) program focuses on identifying and selecting a small group of high school students worldwide who have demonstrated extraordinary mathematical and scientific talent, and providing them with an opportunity to: (1) take online courses with world-renowned scientists and thinkers, exploring new areas in which to apply their abilities; (2) join a diverse community of scholars from around the world who are passionate about using their skills to make the world a better; (3) open new pathways along which their talent can flourish, facilitating their potential to spark revolutionary breakthroughs.
A primary goal of the WSS initiative is to enrich the perspective of profoundly gifted young math and science students, introducing them to scientific areas not typically covered in high school settings. By learning from researchers at the cutting edge of science, scholars gain an understanding of the work involved in making scientific advances. Through the WSS curriculum and faculty, students will be introduced to the powerful impact that mathematical prowess can have in solving complex challenges in a wide range of disciplines, including physics, biology, genetics, computer science, neuroscience, robotics, artificial intelligence, among others.
The WSS program fosters and sustains a vibrant community of gifted students, dedicated teaching fellows, vital mentors, and renowned professors from around the world, all of whom are primarily connected through a state-of-the-art, flexible, and robust digital platform, designed to offer a visually rich online learning experience, providing in-depth, multi-layered experiences for the individual student.
About the Opportunity: Reporting to the President of World Science U (WSU) and Executive Director of Education, or in their absence, the Director of Education, the WSS program Manager oversees daily operations of the WSS program, working intimately with world-renowned scientists and coordinating with the WSF media team to produce and film high quality courses. In addition, they engage directly with scholars and alumni of the program to foster a community-oriented environment. The WSS Program Manager also schedules and oversees occasional in-person WSS events.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees workflow and ensure milestones are met for every phase of program
- Keeps program materials, schedules, databases, and other administrative documentation up to date.
- Helps manage and coordinate the hiring and contracting of all necessary personnel working on the WSS courses.
- Assists the faculty and subject matter experts with research, course design, course building, and in-person live session set-up and execution.
- Works closely with media teams to prepare for and manage shoots for education courses and programs.
- Attends to the programmed events and needs of participants.
- Spreadheads recruitment efforts for new cohorts of scholars, including the maintenance and expansion of global partnerships with education groups and government organizations.
- Processes student applications, assignments, and notifications.
- Assists in the supervision of internal and third-party evaluation and assessment process and reporting.
- Assists in the creation, design, research, and dissemination of program-related web and outreach material, such as newsletters, social media messages, and slide decks.
- Organizes and manages in-person World Science Scholars Festivals including travel logistics, producing events, and engaging with scholars and families.
- Takes creative approaches to expanding World Science Scholars in novel ways.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Special Requirements:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and G Suite products; familiarity with content management systems and learning platforms such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree with knowledge in some area(s) of science and math a plus.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with high-school age students facilitating engaging conversations.
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through; creative problem-solving abilities.
- Can predict, identify, and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Community management and social engagement experience helpful.
- Able to work long and/or flexible hours when needed.
- Superb integrity and professionalism.
- Self-starter who can work independently or as part of a team.
