Meet the newly named 2020 Kavli Prize Laureates in astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. This year’s Kavli Prize honors Andrew Fabian for pioneering research in observational X-ray astronomy; Harald Rose, Maximilian Haider, Knut Urban and Ondrej L Krivanek, for inventions of aberration-corrected lenses in electron microscopes; and David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian for discoveries of sensory receptors for temperature and pressure.
From the discovery of gravitational waves to dramatic advances in gene editing, and unraveling the mysteries of the senses, the World Science Festival’s ongoing series – The Big, The Small and The Complex – explores the latest developments in astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience, guided by the world’s leading scientific minds.

The 2020 Kavli Prize In Astrophysics is awarded to Andrew Fabian for his groundbreaking research in the field of observational X-ray astronomy, covering a wide range of topics from gas flows in clusters of galaxies to supermassive black holes at the heart of galaxies
The 2020 Kavli Prize In Neuroscience is awarded to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian for their transformative discovery of receptors for temperature and pressure.
The 2020 Kavli Prize In Nanoscience is awarded to Harald Rose, Ondrej Krivanek, Maximilian Haider, and Knut Urban for sub-ångström resolution imaging and chemical analysis using electron beams.
