He is noted for work on cosmology where he has proposed one of the leading candidates for the dark matter and several ideas for how the asymmetry might arise between matter and antimatter for work in particle physics particularly in the strong interactions and the possibility that nature is supersymmetric and in string theory. In the past, he was a Long Term Member Institute for Advanced Study and Henry Semat Professor City College of the City University of New York. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences a Guggenheim, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and winner of the Sakurai Prize of the American Physical Society.
