What is sexual orientation? What criteria can you use to define it? Is it behavior? Is it psychology? How have these notions changed over time? After all, what is now sexual orientation was once sickness or a crime. These grey areas, and the need to distill them into concrete definitions that make our brains happy, are arguably the cause of many of the issues plaguing people whose sexual orientations are not considered “normal.” Neuroscientists Paul Vasey and Jim Pfaus explain how coming up with definitions for something as unique as our identities and sexuality is just not that easy. And the more that modern society understands the nature of sexual identity, the more it can gain acceptance as part of the human condition.
