Arts

Here you'll find an exploration of the intersection of science with the visual and performing arts, aesthetics, and design. It’s been 50 years since British scientist and novelist C.P. Snow delivered his famous Rede Lecture on the “The Two Cultures,” calling for a movement toward more meaningful connections between the sciences and the humanities. Are we still living in an age of two cultures? How does art influence science, and vice versa? Is appreciation of art universal—something we're born with? What is going on in a Jazz virtuoso's mind when he improvises? Can the design of building become more efficient by mimicking the self-organization properties of nature?
