In a new annual series, World Science Festival audiences are invited to stand on the shoulders of modern-day giants. When proposing the since-cancelled Superconducting Super Collider (SSC), Steven Weinberg was met with great opposition, often from people who failed to see the long-term benefits of such a scientific facility. While the practical nature of a particle collider may not be immediately apparent, in reality, many scientific breakthroughs come out of the search for larger answers.
